Asus RT-N56U Gigabit Dual-band Router

The Asus RT-N56U Gigabit router is what Wessex Internet have been providing customers as the standard FREE router since early 2015.

It offers a Gigabit WAN connection and 2.4 and 5 GHz dual-band 2x2 MIMI Wi-Fi.

LEDs:

  1. USB:
    1. OFF: no USB devices connected (normal)
    2. ON: USB devices connected (if customers requires)
  2. LAN:
    1. OFF: There is no physical connection to the local area network (this is a problem)
    2. ON: There is a physical connection to the local area network (normal and fully operational)
  3. WAN/Internet:
    1. OFF: There is no physical connection to the Wessex Internet network (this is a problem)
    2. ON: There is a physical connection to the Wessex Internet network (normal and fully operational)
  4. 5 GHz WiFi
    1. OFF: The 5 GHz Wi-Fi network is not operational (this is a problem)
    2. ON: The 5 GHz Wi-Fi network is operational (normal and fully operational)
    3. FLASHING: The 5 GHz Wi-Fi network is transmitting data (normal and fully operational)
  5. 2 GHz Wi-Fi
    1. OFF: The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is not operational (this is a problem)
    2. ON: The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is operational (normal and fully operational)
    3. FLASHING: The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is transmitting data (normal and fully operational)
  6. Power
    1. OFF: The router is powered off (this is a problem)
    2. ON: The router is powered on and ready (normal and fully operational)
    3. FLASHING SLOW: The router is in rescue mode (this is a problem)
    4. FLASHING FAST: Wi-Fi WPS is processing (if you have pressed the WPS button)

Router Configuration for residential broadband fixed-wireless customers using the Asus RT-N56U

  • The fixed-wireless outdoor transceiver radio is configured as the NAT router.
  • The Asus RT-N56U is configured as a Wi-Fi Access Point.
  • The WAN port is connected to the LAN port of the outdoor transceiver's power supply.
  • The 4 x LAN ports are available for the customer to connect to their devices.
  • The 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks are labelled (the SSID) differently so customers can select the best signal/performance Wi-Fi network depending on requirements.
  • Customers can log into the router at http://192.168.1.253 to change the Wi-Fi names and Wi-Fi keys.
  • The router has a default username/password of admin/password.
  • The router's management access is restricted to local devices on your network - not the wider Internet unless you specifically change this setting.
