How well does iPlayer, Prime Video, Netflix, etc work on Wessex Internet?

High bandwidth requiring Internet applications such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer and many others will work very well on our network.

Typically, many video and audio services will stream their content to you rather than download it. With slow copper line ADSL broadband connections, you may have experienced delays starting the video or audio file, a delay whilst the content buffers.

With Wessex Internet connections, the time you wait for content to buffer will be very low, in many cases a few seconds. There also won't be any cut outs or disruptions during the video or audio stream.

Also, most video on demand applications have sophisticated rate-adaptive technology that allows them to change the bit-rate and quality depending on your connection.

Here are the typical bandwidth(speed) requirements for common Internet services:

  • iPlayer (Standard Definition): 1.5 Mb/s
  • iPlayer (High Definition): 3 Mb/s
  • Skype Video Call (High Quality): 1.5 Mb/s
  • Netflix (1080p): 8 Mb/s

In all cases, the Wessex Internet service will allow you to comfortably use many applications at the same time.
